Hedgehogs F2

To Hedgehogs!

We are the happy, helpful Hedgehogs and we try our best in everything we do! Our class teacher is Miss Smith and our teaching assistant is Mrs Martin.

Our topics this Autumn term are:

What is cold?

How do people celebrate?

During the first half term we will be sharing the stories ‘One Snowy Night’, ‘Lost and Found’ and ‘The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud’ and will also be reading non-fiction texts to learn about polar areas. We will be talking about different feelings and linking this to each story we read. We will also be learning about Chinese New Year. During the second half term we will be learning about Holi, St Patrick’s day, Hindu New Year and Easter. We will be comparing how people celebrate special times, and how we are the same and how we are different.

Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.

Communication and Language

We will be listening to different stories, adding actions and retelling them in our own words. We will be talking about our experiences and will use role play to act out our ideas.

Physical Development

This term we will have an outside provider teacher the F2 multi skills for our PE sessions. We will learn how to move in a variety of ways, walking, running, skipping and jumping and learn to move in different directions, forwards, backwards and side to side.  In addition to this, we will be using our outdoor area to climb and balance, and learn how to travel safely avoiding obstacles. We will also carry out many different motor skill activities including, threading, cutting and handwriting.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be thinking about our feelings and the feelings of others. We will look at similarities and differences between ourselves, our friends, and people from a range of cultures. We will reinforce the golden rules and the children will be working hard to follow the rules as a class. We will be following Circle time activities to encourage us to solve problems and talk about different experiences and feelings with our friends.

We will share a range of stories, create story maps and retell the story using props. Children will have many opportunities to write for a range of purposes including writing facts about Polar Regions, writing lists and instructions. We will be reading together during shared carpet sessions and individually. We will also share different non-fiction texts.

The children will be recognising and working with numbers, comparing sets of objects, adding and subtracting and working with larger numbers. We will be comparing and measuring size, and capacity. We will find out about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

Understanding of the World

In the first part of the term we will be talking about the changes we can see in our environment in the winter. We will be looking at snow and ice and we will be learning about the polar animals. We will be learning about how these animals stay warm and where they live. We will also be looking at Chinese New Year and how this is celebrated. In the second part of the term we will be continuing to learn about how people celebrate. We will be learning about St. Patrick’s Day, Holi Festival, Hindu New Year and Easter.

Expressive and Creative Development

Over the term we will take part in lots of different creative activities. We will be having lots of fun painting, making with dough and looking at techniques to recreate artists’ paintings. We will take part in role play to act out the stories we hear and we will learn different songs and add instruments to them. We will be dancing to music from different cultures.
