Leopards Y4

Welcome to Leopards!

Year 4

Miss McBride is the class teacher and Mrs Hollywood is our fabulous teaching assistant.

We are all looking forward to a really exciting Spring Term.

During this term, we will attempt to answer the question

‘What did the Romans do for us?’

Our English work will be based around our history topic all about the Romans. We will be studying a range of genres including instructions, Newspaper reports and non-chronological reports. Our first unit of work will be looking at myths and legends. We will also be including lots of Rainbow Grammar work and working really hard on our handwriting.

In guided reading, we will be reading Romans on the Rampage by Jeremy Strong.

Our class book will be Skyhawk by Gill Lewis.

In maths, we will be spending a lot of time studying multiplication and division but we are also learning about length & perimeter. We always include lots of mastery, problem solving and reasoning activities in our lessons. We will also continue to work on our mental maths skills and times table knowledge.

Our science topic for this term is ‘Can you see me?’ where we will learn all about light and dark, shadows, how we see and mirrors.

This history topic is all about The Romans. We will learn where and when the Roman Empire was, life in Roman Britain, Roman beliefs and what impact the Romans had on Britain.

In computing, we will be looking at Esafety, and learning how to design, write and debug programs. We will be using Purple Mash to help us.

During circle time every week, we will get together across Lower Key Stage 2 to discuss events in the news as well as other things that directly impact us.

Our art and DT work this term includes making Roman mosaics and Roman shields and swords, ready for our Roman battle at the end of the topic!

Leopards PE day will be Thursday. Please make sure you have your full PE kit in school, including plimsolls or trainers. Jewellery and watches must be removed. We will be studying dance as well as Real PE.

Our Religious Education work will see us looking at Religion and the community.

At the end of this term, Lower Key Stage 2 will be holding their performance. We will be spending time learning songs and dances for this, as well as acting and making props. More information to follow!

Remember to read at home as much as you can, and get your diary signed. Each time you get your diary signed you will earn star stamps! Everyone who reads at least 4 times a week will get a prize! You can read any book, not just your school reading book!

Every Friday Leopard's will have two pieces of homework to complete. They are expected to complete their homework for the following Friday. Please do your best to support and encourage your child with their schoolwork.

Spellings are given out every week and we will have our quiz on Friday’s.

If you would like to have a chat or pass on any information please feel free to come into class, I will be more than happy to see you. For a lengthier chat please arrange an after school appointment.

This term is going to be very busy but I'm looking forward to having lots of fun as well!
