Welcome to Monkeys
We work hard, try our best, and have fun.
Mrs Murfitt is the class teacher and Mr Dobb is our brilliant teaching assistant.
We are all looking forward to a really exciting Autumn Term.
During this term, we will attempt to answer the question
‘Which Royal caused the most riots?’
Our English work will be inspired by our history based topic. We will be writing a persuasive piece to join King John’s army, biographies based on some of the royals we are learning about and instructions based around the Magna Carta. We will also be using Rainbow Grammar and learning how to write effective sentences.
Our class book will be Gangsta Granny by David Walliams.
In maths, we will be focussing on number and calculation this term. We will have skills lessons and then apply these in our using and applying sessions. We will also be practising our mental maths skills.
We will be covering two topics this term.
The first is ‘amazing bodies’. We will learn all about the human body, muscles and skeleton.
The second is ‘Who Am I?’. We will learn about vertebrates and invertebrates and how animals are grouped.
This history topic looks at a selection of monarchs who have changed Great Britain in some way. We will be looking at royals such as William the Conqueror, Queen Victoria and Henry VIII and the impact they had on the country.
In computing, we will be looking at Esafety, internet research and coding. We will be using Purple Mash to help us.
During circle time every week, we will get together across Lower Key Stage 2 to discuss events in the news as well as other things that directly impact us.
We will be learning about the Bayeux Tapestry and having a go at creating our own!
We will be studying the portrait artist Hilliard and creating our own royal portraits.
Monkeys PE day will be Thursday and Friday. Please make sure you have your full PE kit in school, including plimsolls or trainers. Jewellery and watches must be removed. We will be studying dance as well as Real PE.
Our Religious Education work will see us looking at Religion and the individual.
Remember to read at home as much as you can, and get your diary signed. Each time you get your diary signed you will earn star stamps! Everyone who reads at least 4 times a week will get a prize! You can read any book, not just your school reading book!
Every Friday the children will have two pieces of homework to complete. They are expected to complete their homework for the following Friday. Please do your best to support and encourage your child with their schoolwork.
Spellings are given out every week and we will have our quiz on Friday’s.
If you would like to have a chat or pass on any information please feel free to come into class, I will be more than happy to see you. For a lengthier chat please arrange an after school appointment.
This term is going to be very busy but we are looking forward to having lots of fun as well
