SUMMER TERM 2017
Theme: ‘Would Beauty and the Beast like to live in Warwick Castle?’
Visit: Warwick Castle – Thursday 8th June 2017
Theme Day: Living in a Castle!
English: This term we will be doing non-fiction writing about castles, reports, descriptions and stories based on Traditional Tales.
We will also be doing lots of work on rainbow grammar and SPAG based on our daily reads.
In reading, we will continue to work on decoding and reading with speed and accuracy. Further to this, we will be introducing more in-depth work on understanding texts and developing our comprehension and inference skills. Try to read at least 3 times a week with an adult and talk about what you have read. Remember to get your diary signed!
Science: This term we will be learning about taking care of ourselves and understanding our bodies (SRE). We will then also learn about identifying, classifying and grouping animals.
RE: We will learn about Christian and Jewish symbols.
Maths: We are learning lots this term! We will be working on Counting, Number and Place Value, Securing Number Facts along with Addition and Subtraction, plus Multiplication and Division and Measurement and Geometry.
We will continue to learn the methods for adding and subtracting numbers to 100. Also we will become faster at recalling multiplication facts from the 2, 5, 10 times tables. We will continue to learn how to complete division calculations. Further to this, we will be building upon our understanding of 2D and 3D shapes, and finding 1/2 of numbers and shapes. We will be working on exciting Big Solves each half term and applying the maths we have learnt each week in our skills sessions!
In Geography and History this term, we will be looking at
why and how castles were built, who lived in a castle and what castle life was like.
We will also do UK map work, and create a map of a castle.
Art: We will be investigating Paul Klee and creating castle art from 2d shapes.
Further to this, in DT we will be designing, making and evaluating a Castle with a working drawbridge and moving knights!
IT: Throughout this term, we will focus upon E safety, creating and debugging simple programmes and learn how to create a stop frame animation using the I pads .
PE: Continues on a Tuesday and we will be working on PE skills and working with the external multi skills coach.
Please remember to bring a white or red t-shirt, red or black shorts and pumps or trainers. Remove earrings before school if possible.
Music: Music Express "Story Time".
PSHE: KS1 school circle time focussing on current issues.
Homework is given out on a Friday and collected in the following Friday.
We have a Friday spelling quiz and it would be really helpful if you could support your child in practising their weekly spellings - THANKYOU.
Remember to read at home as much as you can, and get your diary signed. Each time you get your diary signed you will be able to move up the reading ladder and when you reach the top (10 reads) you will receive a small treat!
In class we have a daily morning snack where your child will continue to receive a free piece of fruit.
Children are also able to bring in 20p a day to spend on a healthy at the morning tuck shop.
SATs weeks 2017
This year Year 2 SATs will take place throughout May so please ensure your child is at school ear day...it is important that your child attends school for the whole week, so they don't miss any tests.
