Our topic for the Autumn term is
"Can a polar bear live in Africa?’

In English we will be using the following focus books to write stories, descriptions, reports, letters and recounts: The Greedy Zebra, The Day the Crayons Quit, Iris and Isaac and The Emperor’s Egg. Our Rainbow Grammar work will focus on using simple and compound sentences, questions, statements and exclamations; as well as identifying word classes and of course spelling!
In reading, we will continue to work on decoding and reading with speed and accuracy. We will also be focussing upon asking and answering questions about a text and we will complete some SATS practice papers. Try to read at least 3 times a week with an adult and talk about what you have read. Remember to get your diary signed!
In Science, will complete observations of seasonal change throughout the Year. Our main learning will focus on living things and their habitats, including around school, hot climates and cold climates.
In maths we are learning lots this term!
Cool Count: 2, 5 and 10 times tables and related division facts.
The main part of our lessons will focus on Number, Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. We will be using a concrete, pictorial, abstract approach and will use a wide variety of representations and methods – this will help us to Master Maths!
We will also be completing some SATS practice papers.
We will be starting the term off with an art topic studying the artist Henry Rousseau and creating a collaborative piece of art. Please look in the top hall and see if you can spot it!
In computing, throughout the term, we will focus upon E safety and film animation.
PE days is Mondays and Tuesdays and we will be working on multi skills and dance. Please remember to bring a white or red t-shirt, red or black shorts and pumps or trainers. Remove earrings before school if possible.
Homework is given out on a Friday and collected in the following Friday. Don't forget to practice your spellings ready for our spelling quiz every Friday!
Remember to read at home as much as you can, and get your diary signed. Each time you get your diary signed you will be able to move up the reading ladder and when you reach the top (10 reads) you will receive a small treat!
