Year Two

 

 

Our class teacher is Mrs Hamilton and we are lucky to have Mrs Buckley and Miss Richards working with us.

 

 

Our Topic Question for the Summer Term is...

 

Would you rather work in a castle or a coal mine?

 

English
In English, we will be reading lots of great stories.  Reading is one of the most important activities that you can share with your children, as it is fun, relaxing and teaches them so much new vocabulary.

Talk for Writing will help us to produce some fantastic writing. This term, We are going to be focusing on instructions, information texts about castles, persuasive leaflets and a recount following our fabulous trip to Warwick Castle.

 

We will be extending sentences with conjunctions, creating compound and complex sentences in our 'Rainbow Grammar' work and focusing joining letters in daily our handwriting.

Maths

In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of the four operations, data handling, shape, fractions and length and height.

Science

Our Summer Term Science topic will focus on Plants.

We will be observing plants, finding out more about seeds and bulbs and the life cycle of plants. We will be learning about how different plants grow and what they need to be strong.

 

 

Through our topic work we will be aiming to answer our topic question...

 

Would you rather work in a castle or a coal mine?

Our learning will be centred around visits to Warwick Castle and Pleasley Pit.

 

Our learning will focus on how and why castles were built, the parts of a castle structure and the different roles and jobs within a castle. In June, we will have a fun theme day to celebrate our learning!

 

Our local history / geography will focus around a study on Pleasley Pit. We will visit the pit and see it working and also listen to stories from a real life miner!

 

Art and D.T

In art, we are focusing on the work of the famous artist,

Paul Klee. Paul Klee was most famous for his 'cubism' inspired work, using shape and colour to spectacular effect.

In DT, we will be designing, building and evaluating our very own castles!

 

Computing

 

Our ICT focus will be making music and presenting ideas.  Additionally, we will be using ICT in lots of other lessons to help our research and presentation of work.  As always, we will be reinforcing the importance of E-Safety.

Music and R.E

Alongside all of this topic work we will be continuing with our Music.  The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning music through our new scheme. This terms musical topic is entitled 'Friendship Song'.

and in RE we are having two theme days...places of worship and religions and rituals.

 

P.E

Please remember to have your full PE kit in school!

This term we will be focussing on team games, multi-skills and dance.

 

Reading

 

Remember to read as often as you can and get your reading record signed - you will earn a star stamp each time! Image result for star stamp

We read everyday in school so you will need your reading book and reading record with you.

Also, have a go at reading a book using your BUG CLUB account!

Homework

 

Homework will be given out on a Friday and the children will have a week to complete.  Additionally, the children should read daily and practice their spellings.
