Toucans Y3

Year 3

Welcome to Toucans' Class Page

Mrs Cooper is the class teacher of Toucans.

Mrs Cheetham and Miss Hrycaj are our Teaching Assistants.

We are all looking forward to a really exciting Summer Term.

Our theme and thought provoking question for the Summer Term is:

“Where in the world is South America?”

Please find below a description of all the amazing work we will be doing in our  action packed Summer Term.

Our English work will be based around our geography topic and our class book. We will start by writing narratives based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Throughout the term we will look at poetry, information leaflets and we will be writing a persuasive letter to Mr Wilkinson. We will also be including lots of Rainbow Grammar work and working really hard on our handwriting.

In guided reading we will be focusing on developing our reading skills and linking this with answering questions about a text. We will also be developing our inference skills - using clues to help us answer questions.

Our class book will be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

In maths, we will be spending a lot of time studying shape, length and perimeter, fractions, measures and time. We always include lots of mastery, problem solving and reasoning activities in our lessons. We will also continue to work on our mental maths skills and times table knowledge. We will hope to know the 3x, 4x and 8x tables by the end of term.

Our science topic for this term is ‘How does your garden grow?’ where we will learn all about plants, how they grow and what they need to survive.

Our geography topic is all about the continent of South America. We will learn where it is, the countries and capital cities as well as the physical and human geographical features. During the second half term, we will focus more on the people and trade within South America.

In computing, we will be looking at Esafety, and learning how to use the internet safely. This includes using search engines correctly. In addition, we will learn about using emails to communicate safely and effectively.

During Circle Time, we will get together with children from lower key stage 2 to discuss issues in the news, as well as things that directly impact on us!

Art / DT

Our art and DT work for the first half term will be learning about the artist Georgia O’Keefe. For the second half term, we will be learning about chocolate which will entail making and designing our own!

Squash and dance

Religious Education

Our Religious Education work will see us looking at Beliefs and Questions.

Visit: We are visiting Cadbury’s World on 6th June as part of our geography and design & technology work.

Homework comprising of two parts will be given out on a Friday and collected in the following Friday. Spellings also go home each week and the children are tested on a Friday. Reading is vital, not only is it a life skill, but it also provides the children with writing ideas. Please take time to read with your child at home regularly.

We are going to have an extremely busy and hard working term but I'm sure it will be lots of FUN!!

Mrs Cooper, Mrs Cheetham and Miss Hyrcaj are very excited about the term ahead and we are very proud of the hard work and effort you put into your work daily.
