Welcome to Toucans' Class Page
Mrs Cooper is the class teacher of Toucans.
Mrs Cheetham and Miss Hrycaj are our Teaching Assistants.
We are all looking forward to a really exciting Autumn Term.
Our theme and thought provoking question for the Autumn Term is:
Which Royal Caused the most riots?
Please find below a description of all the amazing work we will be doing in our action packed Autumn Term.
Our English work will be inspired by our history based topic. We will be writing a persuasive piece to join King John's army, biographies based on some of the royals we are learning about and instructions based around the Magna Carta. We will also be using Rainbow Grammar and learning how to write effective sentences.
Our class book will be Gangsta Granny by David Walliams.
This term in maths, we will be focussing on number and calculation. We will have skills lessons and then apply our learning in our using and applying sessions. We will also be practising our mental maths skills.
We will be covering two topics this term.
The first is 'Amazing Bodies.' We will learn all about the human body, muscles and skeleton.
The second is 'Who Am I?' We will learn about vertebrates and invertebrates and how animals are grouped.
Our history topic looks at a selection of monarchs who have changed Great Britain in some way. We will be looking at royals such as William the Conquerer, Queen Victoria and Henry VIII and discussing the impact they had on the country.
In computing, we will be looking at E safety, internet research and coding. We will be using Purple Mash to help us.
During Circle Time, we will get together with children from lower key stage 2 to discuss issues in the news, as well as things that directly impact on us!
Art / DT
We will be learning about the Bayeux Tapestry and having a go at creating our own.
We will be studying the portrait artist Hilliard and creating our own royal portraits.
Our PE focus this term will be swimming and dance. We will attend the Rebecca Adlington Centre on a Friday afternoon and have an additional lesson on a Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure PE kits / swimming kits are in school on these days.
Our religious education, will see us looking at Religion and the individual.
Homework comprising of two parts will be given out on a Friday and collected in the following Friday. Spellings also go home each week and the children are tested on a Friday. Reading is vital, not only is it a life skill, but it also provides the children with writing ideas. Please take time to read with your child at home regularly.
We are going to have an extremely busy and hard working term but I'm sure it will be lots of FUN!!
Mrs Cooper, Mrs Cheetham and Miss Hyrcaj are very excited about the term ahead and we are very proud of the hard work and effort you put into your work daily.
