Welcome to Toucans' Class Page
Mrs Cooper is the class teacher of Toucans.
Mrs Cheetham and Miss Hrycaj are our Teaching Assistants.
We are all looking forward to a really exciting Spring Term.
Our theme and thought provoking question for the Spring Term is:
What did the Romans do for us?
Please find below a description of all the amazing work we will be doing in our action packed Spring Term.
Our English work will be based around our history topic all about the Romans. We will be studying a range of genres including instructions, newspaper reports and non-chronological reports. Our first unit of work will be looking at myths and legends. Alongside this, we will be developing our understanding of grammar through our Rainbow Grammar work. Handwriting will be a key focus this term.
In guided reading we will be focusing on developing our reading skills and linking this with answering questions about a text.
Our class book will be Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis.
This term in maths, we will be focussing on multiplication and division and we will learn about length and perimeter. We always include mastery challenges, problem solving and reasoning activities within our lessons too. We will also continue to work on our mental maths skills and times tables knowledge with the aim that we will know the 3x table by heart by the end of Spring 1 term.
Our science topic for the Spring term is 'Can you see me?' where we will learn all about light and dark, shadows, how we see and mirrors.
Our history topic is all about The Romans. We will learn where and when the Roman Empire was, life in Roman Britain, Roman beliefs and what impact the Romans had on Britain today.
In computing, we will be looking at E safety, and learning how to design, write and debug programs. We will be using Purple Mash to help us.
During Circle Time, we will get together with children from lower key stage 2 to discuss issues in the news, as well as things that directly impact on us!
Art / DT
Our art and DT work includes making Roman mosaics and shields and swords, ready for our Roman battle at the end of the topic. We will also visit Mansfield Museum for a day learning all about the Romans.
Our PE focus this term will be swimming and athletics. We will attend the Rebecca Adlington Centre on a Friday afternoon and have an additional lesson on a Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure PE kits / swimming kits are in school on these days.
Our religious education, will see us looking at Religion and the community.
At the end of the Spring term, Lower Key Stage 2 will be holding their performance. We will be spending time learning songs and dances and working on our acting and prop making skills. More information to follow.
Homework comprising of two parts will be given out on a Friday and collected in the following Friday. Spellings also go home each week and the children are tested on a Friday. Reading is vital, not only is it a life skill, but it also provides the children with writing ideas. Please take time to read with your child at home regularly.
We are going to have an extremely busy and hard working term but I'm sure it will be lots of FUN!!
Mrs Cooper, Mrs Cheetham and Miss Hyrcaj are very excited about the term ahead and we are very proud of the hard work and effort you put into your work daily.
