Upper Key Stage 2

Welcome to Upper Key Stage 2!

In Upper Key Stage 2 we promote the use of a range of exciting themes that bring alive the National Curriculum.  These themes enable all children to learn through positive experiences and hands-on experiences that they can begin to relate to their own lives.  Building onto an already impressive understanding of their learning skills, the children are supported in making reasoned choices about what level of work they will access.  This is achieved mainly through the use of colour challenges which the children select from in most aspects of the curriculum.  It is our aim in UKS2 to make children confident, independent learners who are eager to succeed.

Two year rolling programmes

Our curriculum is based on a two year rolling programme of thematic questions.

UKS2 Summer Term Planning - A World Inside A World - Do we need to save the Rainforest?

UKS2 Spring Term Planning - The Industrial Revolution: A dark Age or a Golden Age?

Upper key stage 2 themed medium term planning

Autumn term 2017

Whilst we are sleeping , what are the Aussies up to?

Each teacher in Key Stage 1 creates a booklet for parents/carers at the start of each new term. This booklet details the theme being taught, and the different aspects of the theme. It also gives details of trips, messages, PE days and other important information for the term. The booklet is saved on the class pages of the website, but a paper copy can be given if requested.

At Crescent we strive for excellence in both english and maths. The children enjoy a rich english and maths curriculum, which promotes both self-belief and positive learning behaviours.  We believe reading is a key skill, and as the children move into and through UKS2 we build upon the comprehension skills they have developed in LKS2. Through a range of stimulting texts, children are taught how to discuss an authors writing techniques, infer meanings and comprehend more complex ideas.  It is our aim for all children to leave  Crescent Primary School in Y6 being competant readers, who love books.
