Jellyfish Class Autumn Term
Jellyfish class is made up of children in years one and two who access a bespoke curriculum tailored around their areas of need. Their personalised curriculum prioritises building engagement and creating opportunities which support the development of communications and interaction skills.
Mrs Cheetham is the teacher who oversees the learning opportunities in Jellyfish Class. In school, she enjoys spending time outside and joining in with messy play. This term Mrs Cheetham is looking forwards to having a successful year in Jellyfish class and seeing all the children happy in school. Mrs Cheetham is joined in Jellyfish Class by teaching assistants, Miss Burton and Mrs Gajda and Learning Support Assistants Mrs Screaton and Mrs Thrall.
I am Miss Burton. I work in Jellyfish class and have been a TA at this school for 8 years. I love helping children to reach their full potential; sometimes when they can’t even see that potential themselves. I enjoy long walks with my family and spending time together exploring different parts of the UK. I am looking forward to a successful year in Jellyfish class.
My name is Mrs Screaton. I enjoy reading stories and doing fun fit with my Jellyfish friends. This term, I am looking forward to lots more adventures and messy play!
I am Mrs Thrall and I work in Jellyfish. I have been working at Crescent for 3 years. My favourite lesson at school is PE. I enjoy spending time with my family at the weekends and taking my children to football. I support Manchester United and my favourite colour is red.
My name is Mrs Gajda, I have been in our school for the past 3 years as an LSA. I like holidaying with family and learning new cultures and trying lots of yummy food. I am really looking forward to working with all the children in year 2 and jellyfish. I am mostly looking forward to working in different classes and getting to know all the lovely children. My favourite lesson is music as I love listening to all the children singing and enjoying themselves.
This Term in Jellyfish class we are focusing on the topic ‘My home- Where am I?’ In Literacy we are looking at texts about different families, our homes and places where people live. We are providing lots of opportunities for early mark-making and linking the resources within our continuous provision to the key text for the children to independently explore.
For example, our currently key text is ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ by Julie Donaldson focusing on who lives in our house.
In Maths, we are focusing on 1:1 counting, number recognition and comparing groups to see which group has more or less. Our maths is scaffolded to reflect each individual pupil, with some children working within 5 and some within 50! We provide lots of practical opportunities for children to explore and problem solve using different resources.
In topic learning, we are focusing on the changing seasons and exploring these using our 5 senses. We are looking at the clothing we might wear each season, noticing the changes outside through walks around school and exploring items/textures linked to each season through sensory baskets. Later in the term, we will be focusing on exploring different fruits and vegetables with our senses and practising our cutting skills.
Children have daily opportunities to engage in Phonics and Work Awareness using the schools Supersonic Phonic Friends scheme at their appropriate level. Life skills are built into the curriculum to promote children to become independent learners.
Children have frequent opportunities throughout the day to engage in continuous provision with opportunities for learning both inside and outside. Activities provided are purposeful and linked to the children's individual targets and interests as well as the current theme. Adults are free within provision to promote interactions and further play along.
