Welcome to our 'Rocking Robins'!

Robins' Staff

Mrs Campbell-Short is the class teacher in Robins. Additionally, Mrs Cheetham is the class teacher on a Tuesday morning and Mrs Gurrie on some Wednesday mornings. The teaching assistants in Robins are Miss Allwood, Mrs Marples and Miss Blake. Mrs Campbell-Short loves teaching in Nursery and enjoys spending her days playing and having adventures with all the children. Mrs Campbell-Short’s favourite lesson is Nature Detectives as she loves exploring the outdoor world and seeing how it changes throughout the seasons. In Robins, PE is on Thursdays and all Robins need to come to school in their school PE kit. Nature Detectives is on a Friday. Please remember to bring suitable outdoor clothing as we go out in all weathers.

This term, Miss Allwood is looking forward to meeting the children and getting to know their personalities better! Miss Allwood is looking forward to preparations for Christmas and our Christmas carol performance! Miss Marples is really looking forward to getting to know all the children and watching them grow. Mrs Marples is excited to read lots of adventure books. We are also lucky to have Miss Blake joining us in Robins this year. Miss Blake is really looking forward to getting to know the children and helping them succeed. She can't wait for nature detectives.

Our topic this term is called ‘Amazing Me’ and we will learn simply how amazing we truly are! As part of this topic, we will be learning all about the amazing things we can do, about our body parts and our feelings and emotions. We will learn about how we grow and change as we get older and make comparisons about what we can do now compared to when we were a baby. We will also learn about some special celebrations for people, including Diwali, Christmas and Harvest.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This term we welcome lots of new robins into class and support them in their transition into school. Children are given opportunities to play and socialise with the other children and adults in the class both indoors and outdoors. Children begin to learn the school rules and develop an understanding of what is right and wrong. Children will develop an understanding of their emotions and begin to explain how they are feeling use the Zones of Regulation check in system.

Children are encouraged and supported to develop independence and self-help skills in toileting and dressing themselves (coats and shoes).

Communication and Language

Throughout the term, we will develop our speaking and listening skills through a mixture of both play and taught carpet sessions. Children are absorbed in a language rich environment where language and articulation are modelled by staff. Children listen to and are involved in conversations with their friends and the adults throughout the day. Children take part in daily carpet sessions to develop sustained listening skills and enjoy taking part in group stories and songs. Children are encouraged and praised for sharing their thoughts, feelings and opinions through their chosen form of communication.

Physical Development

Children in Robins are regularly encouraged and supported to develop their gross motor and fine motor skills both indoors and outdoors. We spend time in our outdoor area where there are opportunities to climb, run, balance and develop agility skills. Children have opportunities to develop their fine motor control through well-stocked continuous provision in class. Children have access to scissors, threading, tweezers, pencils and much more. Adults work with children to develop a comfortable pencil and scissor grip.

Literacy

This term, we will listen to and explore a range of stories and texts in small groups. We will begin to join in with familiar stories and ask for favourite stories again and again. We will develop our pencil control to help us make marks on paper and to use mark making tools effectively. We will take part in regular phonics sessions to develop our focus, attention and listening skills ready to read and write.

Maths

In maths, we are developing our understanding of the numbers to 5. We are working hard to count effectively to 5 by rote and by touch counting, and we are trying hard to represent numbers on our fingers. We will sing a range of number songs and use props and resources to help us act them out. We will also learn about shapes, colours and begin to learn about measures.

Understanding the World

This term, we are learning about growing and changing. We will compare and discuss how we have grown and changed since we were babies. We will learn about our facial and body parts. In addition to this, we will learn about special celebrations for people such as Diwali and Christmas. We will learn how people celebrate them and why they are important to people.

In Nature Detectives, we will learn about the world around us and how it is changing as we move into Autumn and then Winter. We will take part in lots of nature-based activities to help us understand our ever-changing world.

Expressive Arts and Design

We will develop our creative skills using a variety of different media such as paint, chalk, modelling and play dough. Children have the freedom to explore their creative side during their play with access to a dedicated art and creative area stocked with a variety of different resources. Children will be taught skills for drawing and cutting.

Children will take part in daily singing and dancing activities and are encouraged to explore these skills in their own play during choosing time too. Children have access to musical instruments, role play props, dressing up clothes and resources and much more. They are encouraged and supported to express their own personalities and creativity.
