Our topic question this term is.......
Will Rainforests survive the 21st century?
Our English work in the first half term will be based around the narrative ‘The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell. We will use Talk for Writing to help us write a setting description and poems. During the second half term, our focus will be on non-fiction writing. We will be applying our knowledge of deforestation and the rainforest to write a series of persuasive pieces. We will continue to have a strong focus on handwriting, spelling, grammar and punctuation throughout the term.
In Guided Reading, we will be focusing on developing our reading skills and linking this with answering questions about a text. We will also be developing our inference skills - using clues to help us answer questions. To begin the Spring term, we will be reading a range of different poems and in the second half-term, we will be exploring non-fiction texts in more detail.
This term, we will be focusing on multiplication and division methods. We will apply our multiplication knowledge and skill-set in the second half-term as we will be learning about Area and Fractions. Like the Autumn term, there will be a real focus on learning the timestables up to 12x12 and being able to recall them confidently.
In Science, we will be learning about three different topics in the Spring term. Our first topic is called ‘Our Changing World’ and we will be exploring how trees and plants are identified and classified. Our second topic of the half term is called ‘Who Am I?’ and we will be learning about vertebrates and invertebrates. In the second half term, we will be learning about the impact of humans on our environment.
Our thought provoking topic question this term will enable us to think about our changing world and the impact humans are having. We will be using digital mapping and atlases to locate continents, countries and capital cities. We will be learning about the rainforest and the animals that live there. As we progress into the second half term, we will be focussing on deforestation and how the rainforests are used.
Our computing work will, as always, involve work around E-Safety and knowing how to stay safe online. Our main focus will be physical computing - which will involve creating a musical robotic shaker and during the second half term creating a games controller within programming.
Our RSHE work will centre around 'Caring and Responsibility' and 'Families and Committed Relationships.' We will discuss rights and responsibilities and also understand what it feels like to belong and what a caring family is. We will also share conversations about diversity and how diversity is valued within communities.
Art / DT
In our Art lessons, we will be learning about Henri Rousseau, and we will be replicating some of his rainforest inspired artwork. As part of our DT work, we will be utilising our electricity science knowledge as we will be creating an electrical game.
PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday will be indoors working on 'Gymnastics' skills and Wednesday will be outdoors working on 'Athletics.' Please ensure correct kit is sent on these days.
During this term the children will understand how music can offer a form of spiritual expression and worship. Children will hear examples of Christian music and make comparisons with music from other sources which children find spiritually interesting.
Our French topics are called - Tell me a story and Our sporting lives. The children will begin to use adjectives to help describe and use sporting vocabulary.
Our music themes are Stop! and Lean on me. Children will sing, play, improvise and compose with the unit song and within the second unit will play the C and F notes with increasing accuracy and timing on the recorder.
