Hedgehogs F1 (NURSERY)

To Hedgehogs!

We are the happy, helpful Hedgehogs and we try our best in everything we do! Our class teacher is Miss Smith and our teaching assistants are Miss Fox and Miss Burton.

Our topics this Spring term are:

Hot and Cold

and

On the Farm

During the first half term we will be learning about hot and cold places, the animals that live there and we will begin to make some comparisons between them. We will also be sharing lots of different stories and talking about how we can keep ourselves safe when using technology. In the second half term we will be learning about farm animals and what grows on a farm. We will be talking about similarities and differences between ourselves and others and learning about Chinese New Year and Easter.

Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.

Communication and Language

We will rehearse and speak in front of others, listen to others' ideas and share our own knowledge and ideas with our peers and our families. We will also be telling our own stories and acting them out.

Physical Development

This term we will be practicing a variety of skills, for example threading and cutting, to develop our fine motor skills. We will also take part in weekly PE lessons to develop our gross motor skills, including balancing, coordination and throwing and catching.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be supporting the children to talk about some similarities and differences between themselves and others. We will be learning about how we can stay safe online and how we can solve problems between friends. We will also learn about the cultures and beliefs of others.

Literacy

We will be looking in depth at our shared stories and will practise joining in with the repeated refrains in the books. We will predict the endings to the stories and begin to identify the front cover and its features. We will also be using a variety of materials to practise making marks and give meaning to them. Some of the stories we will be sharing this term are: Bear Snores On, One Snowy Night, Handa's Surprise and The Three Little Pigs.

Maths

We will practise our counting skills through our ‘Cool Count’, which includes counting forwards, backwards and recognising numbers. We will be practising making sets and making comparisons between two groups of objects, saying which group has more or less. We will be participating in shape, space and measures activities, including using 2D shapes to make pictures and using scales to weigh objects.

Understanding the World

In the first part of the term, we will be learning about hot and cold environments and talking about the changes we can see between the different seasons. We will also learn about how Chinese New Year is celebrated and make comparisons to our own New Year celebrations. In the second half term, we will be learning about the different animals which live on the farm and what grows on a farm.

Expressive and Creative Development

Over the term, we will be using a variety of techniques and equipment to make different models and pictures. We will be learning about colours and begin to explore the effects of mixing colours together. We will also be creating our own stories and acting them out with our peers.
