We are the happy, helpful Hedgehogs and we try our best in everything we do! Our class teacher is Miss Smith and our teaching assistants are Mrs Maskery and Mrs Wilson.
Our topics this Summer term are:
Me and My World
During the first half term we will be learning about what plants need to grow and will be sharing stories about fruits and vegetables. We will be retelling stories using a story map and then making up our own stories and story endings. In the second half term we will be learning about ourselves and the world around us. We will be sharing favourite stories and rhymes.
Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.
Communication and Language
We will rehearse and speak in front of others, asking questions and sharing our own knowledge and ideas with our parents, carers and siblings. We will also be using story maps to engage in Talk for Writing activities.
This term we will be practicing a variety of different skills, for example throwing, catching, kicking, balancing and cutting. We will be setting lots of challenges over the weeks to help us practise these skills.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will be working collaboratively with our family to solve problems and share ideas. We will also learn about the cultures and beliefs of others.
We will be looking in depth at our shared stories and will make story maps to help us when retelling them. We will use non-fiction books and the internet to find out information. There will also be a variety of shared and independent reading and writing activities as well Phonics lessons. We will be continuing to use Bug Club and Oxford Reading Tree to practise our reading. Some of the stories we will be sharing this term are: Jasper's Beanstalk, Kitchen Disco, Supertato and No-Bot the Robot with No Bottom.
We will continue to practise our counting skills through our daily ‘Cool Count’ on Tapestry. We will be practising our counting skills in many different ways and will learn to add and subtract using objects and a number line. We will also be learning to share out a number and find half and double of a number. We will be participating in shape, space and measures activities, including looking at 2D shapes, measuring and weighing objects, and thinking about time.
Understanding of the World
In the first part of the term, we will be learning about the conditions needed for growth and which foods are healthy and decay. We will be looking at the world around us as Spring turns into Summer and looking closely at fruits, vegetables and flowers. We will also learn about minibeasts and worms. In the second half term, we will be learning about our environment and how we can look after the planet. We will also be learning about how we can keep healthy. We will be learning about what is alive and what is not alive, and where things live.
Expressive and Creative Development
Over the term, we will be looking closely at objects and draw them using different media and materials. We will explore sound and make our own instruments to make music at our own Kitchen Disco. We will also be creating our own stories and adapting well known stories.
