Puffins Y3

to Puffin’s class!

We are the Proud Puffins.

We work hard and always try our best.

Puffins are great friends and work well as a team.

Miss Kennedy is the teacher and Mrs Maskery and Mrs Wilson are the teaching assistants. Mr Matthews will be teaching in our class on a Wednesday.

We are looking forward to an exciting term.

Our Autumn term topic is: Did Britain change after the Battle of Britain?

We will be focusing on writing different types of sentences and becoming confident at using these in our writing. Our writing focus will be setting descriptions based on the ‘Tin Forest’ story and the setting of ‘The boy and the unicorn.’ We will also write a letter in the role of a child that has been evacuated. In the second half term we will move on to writing a newspaper report based in world war 2 and then a poetry.

Each week we will have a reading morning where we will develop our reading and comprehension skills. This will involve reading in a group and individually. We will get to know the text well through discussion, role play and will answer questions about it.

In maths our focus will be on place value and understanding the value of each digit in a number. We will then move on to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be working on times tables each week and mastering the 10, 5, 2, 3, 4, and 8 times tables.

Our topic this term is focussed on World War 2. We will be finding out why and when the war began and about what life was like during this time. We will learn about the Battle of Britain, the Blitz, evacuation and rationing. We shall also improve our map skills and will look at a world map. We will name the cities in the UK and will find where the countries involved in the war are in the world.

Art and DT

In art we will be looking at scenes from the Blitz and will mix our own colours to create a cityscape. In DT we will use our knowledge of rationing to make a healthy recipe.

In PE our focus will be games and we will be doing this on Wednesdays. Please make sure a PE kit is in school and as we will be outside if possible children will need jogging bottoms and a tracksuit top. Please make sure earrings have been taken out before school, as we cannot take them out for them.

In RE this term we will be focusing on the Hindu religion and finding out about the beliefs and celebrations that are followed. We will also be learning about the meaning of Christmas.

The focus of our work in this area will be positive relationships and friendships, personal space and everybody being different but equal.

In French the topic is All About Me and we will be learning words about ourselves and having fun using them in simple conversations.

We have a busy and fun term planned. Please come and ask us any questions you might have. If you can't see us please send a message and I will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Homework will be set every Friday through our remote learning platform - Seesaw. We also need your support in practising reading, spelling and times tables at home.
