We are the rocking Robins and we try our best in everything we do! Our class teachers are Mrs Campbell-Short (Monday- Thursday) and Mrs Smith (Friday).
Miss Richards is our Teaching Assistant
Our topic this Spring term is:
Down on the Farm
During this term, we will be learning about the busy jobs a farmer gets up to down on the farm. We are going to read stories all about farm animals and look at non-fiction texts to help us learn all about these animals too. Later in the term, we will learn all about growing and we will discover how to successfully grow our own crops, just the farmers do. Also, in this term we are going to be learning all about 2 different celebrations: Chinese New Year and Easter. We will learn about how different people celebrate these festivities and will take part in different activities based on them.
Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.
Communication and Language
We will rehearse and speak in front of others, listen to others' ideas and share our own knowledge and ideas with our peers and our families. We will also be telling our own stories and acting them out.
This term we will be practicing a variety of skills, for example threading and cutting, to develop our fine motor skills. We will also take part in two weekly PE lessons to develop our gross motor skills, including balancing, coordination and travelling in different ways.
We will be working with Miss Holly on Monday's practicing our dance and yoga skills. We will be working with Heather on Wednesdays learning different skills needed to play games and sports.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will continue to think about our actions and how to be good friends to everyone in the class. We will think about what actions are good and which actions we need to improve upon. We will continue to learn all about our Golden Rules and how to follow them inside and outside. We will read the story 'Mixed' by Aree Chung to help us understand about how we are all the same and different and how families can all be very different too. We will also learn about the cultures and beliefs of others.
We will be looking in depth at our shared stories and will practise joining in with the repeated refrains in the books. We will predict the endings to the stories and begin to identify the front cover and its features. We will use our phonics knowledge to help us develop our writing skills.
We will continue to learn sounds in phonics moving onto the phase 3 phonemews in the early Spring term.
Some of the stories we will be sharing this term are: Farmer Duck, the Three Billy Goats Gruff and the Three Little Pigs.
We will practise our counting skills through our ‘Cool Count’, which includes counting forwards and recognising numbers. We will be practising making sets and making comparisons between two groups of objects, saying which group has more or less. We will be participating in shape, space and measures activities, including using 2D shapes to make pictures and using scales to weigh objects.
Understanding of the World
In the first half term, we will be focussing on the animals that live in a farm. We are going to learn about where they live and what their habitats are like. We will learn the life cycle of some animals and learn how they grow and change over time.
In the second half term, we will learn all about growing. We will learn about how to plant and look after a seed to help it grow successfully and we are going to create our own garden in the foundation stage playground.
In addition to this, we are going to learn about the different beliefs and cultures of others by learning about Chinese New Year and Easter.
Expressive and Creative Development
Over the term, we will be using a variety of techniques and equipment to make different models and pictures. We will be learning about colours and begin to explore the effects of mixing colours together. We will also be creating our own stories and acting them out with our peers.
