Our class teacher is Mrs Hamilton and we are lucky to have Mr Dobb and Miss Parker working with us at various times over the week.
Our Topic Question for the Spring Term is...
Is trade always fair?
As part of this thought provoking topic, we will begin by discovering more about the early Islamic Civilisation. The children will uncover the role of Baghdad. They will find out about the impact of the House of Wisdom and create their own art inspired by geometric patterns. This half of the topic will conclude with the children learning about how the early Islamic civilisation established itself as a major power, helped by its geographical position and the quality of its trading goods.
As we move into the second half term, we will make links to trade and economics. We will learn about what the UK trades and with whom. Discovering more about specific links with El Salvador. A big focus for us will be educating ourselves about fair trade, its importance and how we can help.
Reading is one of the most important activities that you can share with your children, as it is fun, relaxing and teaches them so much new vocabulary.
Talk for Writing will help us to produce some fantastic writing. This term, we are going to be focusing on writing setting descriptions, newspaper reports, witness statements inspired by the music video for Titanium, ensuring we include a wide range of grammatical styles.
In Maths, we will be strengthening our understanding of arithmetic, whilst focusing more heavily on problem solving and reasoning. In addition to this, we will investigate space and shape, statistics and position and direction.
Our Spring Term Science topics are 'Nature Library' and 'Our Changing World'.
These exciting topics will teach us how living things are grouped and classified. The children will be able to describe examples of animal behaviour and, based on their observations, suggest reasons for the behaviours.
Our ICT focus will begin as always with-e-safety. We will then be learning all about coding and debuging.
Music and R.E
Alongside all of this topic work we will be enjoying progressing our Music. This terms we will be studying the very popular 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams
and in RE we will be discovering more about the crucifixion.
Year 6 will have PE on a Monday. Please remember to have your full PE kit in school!
Remember to read as often as you can and get your reading record signed - you will earn a star stamp each time!
We read everyday in school so you will need your reading book and reading record with you.
Also, make sure you access your online reading books using your BUG CLUB account!
Two piece of homework will be given out on a Friday and the children will have a week to complete. Additionally, the children should read daily and practice their spellings.
All children now have access to OneNote. OneNote has homework details, spellings and a variety of other things that will be useful to your child. Please let me know if you need any further information.
If you would like to have a chat or pass on any information please feel free to come into class; we will be more than happy to see you. For a lengthier chat please arrange an after school appointment.
