We are all looking forward to a really exciting Summer Term.
Our theme and thought provoking question for the Summer Term is:
Were there Woolly Mammoths in Mansfield?
Please find below a description of all the amazing work we will be doing in our action packed Summer Term.
Our English work in the first half term will be based around two texts linked to our topic of Stone Age to Iron Age. They are 'Stone Age Boy' and 'How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth'. We will be looking at writing narratives, recounts and instructions. Afterwards we will focus on non-fiction and writing reports on the information we have found out about the Stone Age. In addition, we will work on handwriting, spelling, grammar and punctuation throughout the term.
In guided reading we will be focusing on developing our reading skills and linking this with answering questions about a text. We will develop our use of close reading and learn how to understand the words written in context.
Our class book will continue to be Varjak Paw
This term, we will be developing our understanding of methods of multiplication and division We will continue with our times-tables focus where we will practise chanting and learning the 3x, 4x and 8x tables. Please encourage the use of Times Tables Rock Stars at home and the BBC Super Movers activities on the BBC website.
In addition, we will be learning about fractions and decimals and we will move on to telling the time and using capacity and mass.
We will cover two topics:
How does your garden grow? Can you see me?
We will be finding out about flowering plants and what they need to grow and survive.
We will be thinking about what we need to be able to see and investigating about what makes shadows.
Our topic this term is history focused around Stone Age to Iron Age. We will be looking at cave men and how they lived, as well as learning how human life changed and developed until the Roman invasion in 43 AD.
Our computing work will, as always, involve work around E-Safety and knowing how to stay safe online. Our other topics will be on Branching Databases and Graphing.
During Circle Time, we will get together with children from lower key stage 2 to discuss issues in the news, as well as things that directly impact on us!
Art / DT
We will be creating some cave style art and designing and making some Stone Age jewellery.
PE will be football on a Tuesday with Mr Saleh and we will be starting squash with My Hay. We will be developing ball control and competitive fun games.
Our first RE focus will be on Judaism and our second focus will be on inspirational people and the role of religion in their lives.
Our music will be led by our scheme 'Charanga'. Our topic titles are 'Bring us together' and 'Rewind and Replay.'
Visit: Creswell Crags
Homework comprising of two parts will be given out on a Friday and collected in the following Friday. Spellings also go home each week and the children are tested on a Friday. Reading is vital, not only is it a life skill, but it also provides the children with writing ideas. Please take time to read with your child at home regularly.
We are going to have an extremely busy and hard working term but I'm sure it will be lots of FUN!!
Mrs Cooper, Mrs Buckley, Mrs Hawkins and Miss Burton are very excited about the term ahead and we are very proud of the hard work and effort you put into your work daily.
