  • Corona Virus Advice/guidance for educational settings

    Tue 25 Feb 2020

    Advice for parents/guardians

You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus.

There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend their early years, school or further education setting as normal.

We recognise that some families or children may be planning to travel to China during the forthcoming half term period. If so, please refer to the FCO’s latest travel advice.

    What action you can take

A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.

Advice to those who have travelled recently

Public Health England has changed the advice for individuals who have travelled recently as follows:

Travellers from Wuhan and Hubei Province

If you have travelled from Wuhan or Hubei Province to the UK in the last 14 days you should immediately:

    • stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
    • call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the area

Please follow this advice even if you do not have symptoms of the virus.

Travellers from other parts of China and other specified areas

This advice applies to travellers who have returned to the UK from the following areas:

    • Elsewhere in China
    • Thailand
    • Japan
    • Republic of Korea
    • Hong Kong
    • Taiwan
    • Singapore
    • Malaysia
    • Macau

If you have returned to the UK from any of these areas in the last 14 days and develop symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath, you should immediately:

    • stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
    • call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country

    Encouraging good hygiene

As always, if you have symptoms of a cold or flu, then there are measures you can take to stop germs:

    • always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
    • wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
    • avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

  • Letter from Chair of Governors re: Head Teacher update

    Wed 12 Feb 2020

    Dear parents/carers

I wrote to you a short while ago to explain that Mr Wilkinson will be moving on from Crescent at Easter to take up post as one of her majesty's Inspectors (HMI). I also set out how the governing body will be going about recruiting the next headteacher for Crescent. I said that I would provide updates.

Working with the local authority, the governing body has set out the competencies and attributes that the successful candidate will need to have. We have advertised in the East Midlands region and have shown interested parties around the school. Some of the older pupils helped with this and, as always, showed Crescent at its’ best!

We have shortlisted and will be conducting a wide range of selection activities, including interviews, on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th February. This means that we should know who will be Crescent’s next headteacher just before the children finish for the half term break.

As soon as we have a firm successor in place, I will contact you again to inform you of the outcome.

I’d like to extent my thanks to the governing body, staff at the school and pupils for supporting this process. I look forward to informing confirming who the next headteacher will be as soon as possible.

    Yours faithfully

Ian Elton MBE – Chair of Governors.
