End of Key Stage 1

Our end of Key Stage 1 artists will be able to join one point to another through the means of mark making using both pencil lines and paintbrush strokes. Children will be able hold both pencils and paintbrushes correctly and create patterns, including polka dots, through repetition. They will have a clear understanding of Paul Klee’s, Yayoi Kusama’s work and Henri Rousseau work and replicate their style in their own art. Children will use collage, paint and techniques in clay work to make self-portraits and other forms of art. Children will be able to identify primary colours and mix them to create secondary colours. They will create light and dark shades of colour using black and white and apply them to produce art based on the work of Kandinsky. Children can use natural resources including sticks, twigs, rocks and leaves to make animal pictures, sculptures, paintings, collage and weaves. Children will explore Henri Rousseau’s genre with a focus on his ‘Portrait-Landscape’ and use their imagination and skills to learn about and paint animals in his style.
