At Crescent Primary School, the intent of our Art and Design curriculum is to offer the opportunities that stimulate imagination and creativity. Our curriculum reflects our ‘Dream Big’ curriculum driver by engaging, inspiring and challenging our pupils by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment and create their own works of art. They are given the opportunities to explore their ideas and record their own experiences through a range of mixed media. Children will become confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, printing as well as other selected craft skills including collage, sculpture and 3D art. Our Art and Design curriculum facilitates the progression of skills. As pupils progress through school, they will have the opportunities to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. Pupils will understand how art and design both reflect and shape our history. Using our curriculum driver ‘Our Place in Our World’, pupils will know about a selection of great artists, craft makers and designers by understanding the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
