Our topic this term is ‘We're Going on an Adventure.’ During this term, the children will learn about a 'hot' place and a 'cold' place, and will make comparisons between the two. The children will have opportunities to learn about where they live and look at places on maps and globes. We will explore our local area and take a visit around the community. The children will continue to build upon their relationships and develop skills in sharing and turn taking.
Communication and Language
Throughout the term, we will be supported to learn and develop our spoken language along with our listening and understanding. We will begin to answer 'how' and 'why' questions and also do this when discussing the texts we are reading. Will continue to develop our conversational language and begin to turn taking when speaking.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will be supported to develop important skills to lead happy and healthy lives. These include, forming and maintaining friendships, managing impulses and big feelings and checking in on those feelings on a daily basis by learning how to use Zones of Regulation which is used throughout school. We will continue to develop our understanding of the school rules and understand why it's important to have and follow these rules. We will also think about what a healthy lifestyle is and what contributes to it. In the second half of the term, we will also discuss road safety.

We will also spend time reading a range of books from our ‘Author of the Term’. This term we will be focusing on Nick Butterworth and his ‘Percy Park Keeper’ series of stories.

In maths, we will be developing our understanding of numbers, numerical patterns and shape, space and measures. We will be doing this through counting sessions, weekly maths challenges and high-quality maths resources in our continuous provision. We will be focusing on numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 to make sure our understanding is really secure before moving on next half term.
Understanding of the World
To begin with we will learn about hot and cold places in the world. We will learn about how to travel there, who lives there, which animals live there and what we might wear. Along with learning these facts, we will make comparisons between Antarctica, Africa and Mansfield. We will also look at a life cycle and the changes in the environment as Spring approaches.
Each week, we will participate in Nature Detective sessions. This will involve us exploring our environment and look closely at changes in the world around us. We will also talk about special times in our lives and talk about who is important to us.
